The Higher Education Opportunity Act (Public Law 110-315) requires that the University post all materials, technology requirements, and costs at the time a course becomes available on LionPATH and, if applicable, the World Campus Course Catalog. Any changes to, or removal of, previously released material will affect both the course content and student finances. Changes may also affect the technological relationships within the course. For this reason, instructors should never change materials or technology related to a course without first consulting the administrative unit overseeing the course.
Not requiring any textbooks or similar resources for your course, or using free resources such as OER or ebooks from the Penn State Libraries? These cases should still be noted in Barnes & Noble's "Adoption and Insights Portal" (AIP) so that information will also be visable to students in LionPATH.
- No textbooks or similar resources required? AIP has an option you may select for your course offering - Once you log in to AIP, and select your course offering, choose the 'I'm not using any materials for this course' option.
- If you are using an Open Education Resource (OER), follow the directions on Penn State's OER website.
The AIP has answers to many other textbook adoption questions! Once you log in to the system, select "Adoption Support" from the main menu to access their FAQ.
"Market" your low- or no-cost materials!
If you use low- or no-cost course materials, ask your course scheduler to add the "Required Text Cost" attribute to your course offering in LionPATH. When making choices about which courses to take (especially electives), students can search for courses on that attribute to locate courses that fit their budget…so help them to find your course!
