Missing Black Editing Bar

If faculty are not able to see the black bar, they will not be able to create new pages, use the outline designer, etc. This is a permission problem and can be remedied by following the steps below.

Go to permissions - people
Verify that the instructor has permission to: (NOTE: this is a list of all the permissions instructors should have, not just the ones to fix the black bar issue)

  • Access administration menu
  • Flush caches
  • Display Drupal Links
  • Administer blocks
  • Administer book outlines
  • Create new books
  • Add content and child pages to books
  • View printer-friendly books
  • View anyone's value for field policies
  • Use the Full HTML text format
  • Use the Filtered HTML text format
  • View Hidden content
  • Masquerade as user
  • Masquerade as any user
  • Administer menus and menu items
  • Access the content overview page
  • View published content
  • View own unpublished content
  • View content revisions
  • Revert content revisions
  • Delete content revisions
  • Book page: Create new content, Edit own content, Edit any content, Delete own content, Delete any content
  • Discussion Assignment: Create new content, Edit own content, Edit any content, Delete own content, Delete any content
